On page 17 under "initiative," it has the 2d6+HP rule (which I apparently missed the first read-through), but on page 16 under "turns," it has the all-players-act-simultaneously rule. simultaneous actions make more sense in non-combat situations where time is still nevertheless a factor (but honestly I'd want to factor injury in to that as well), but initiative order makes more sense in combat. I'll edit the review, thanks for the catch.Chris Jacksonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08024769114833934395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8233554834039208796.post-47620761003717479052012-03-10T15:23:44.355-05:002012-03-10T15:23:44.355-05:00'In TDF, there is no initiative; players all d...'In TDF, there is no initiative; players all declare their actions, and they are resolved simultaneously.'<br /><br />I've not got my copy to hand but I'm sure it's Players act first unless they're surprised/ambushed etc and roll 2d6 + current HP for turn order. I think at this point (just from the sample set) it's already top of the ranks among science fiction, outer space RPGs for its elegant simplicity, and I think the next thing to ponder is what else to do with it. I'm also a big fan of VSCA's "Diaspora," and the benefit is that both your system and FATE utilize a standard bell curve for result percentages, so the two could be made compatible relatively easily. Check back for the review of the whole book.Chris Jacksonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08024769114833934395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8233554834039208796.post-15799068336150237062012-03-07T08:03:35.769-05:002012-03-07T08:03:35.769-05:00Thanks for the thorough and honest review. A few resources I've seen have helped a lot with having "shortcuts" for figuring out the to-hit on descending AC, but this is definitely the easiest. I also found that someone had released a very similarly engineered version to reset LL AC to ascending, which is also a possibility. But thanks for this, this is very useful.Chris Jacksonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08024769114833934395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8233554834039208796.post-85903819982107396362012-01-19T19:48:25.309-05:002012-01-19T19:48:25.309-05:00Have you seen Target 20?

Magic is super dangerous, but it's also very powerful -- much more powerful than an AD&D 1st level wizard would ever wield. Although a lot of the rules in DCC seem arbitrary and deadly, in practice it's fun as hell. Try playing, it's the most fun I've had with a fantasy RPG in years.dorkbothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12441736886470557606noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8233554834039208796.post-43192653844253128792011-10-10T06:00:48.086-04:002011-10-10T06:00:48.086-04:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.anarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05546197561922726279noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8233554834039208796.post-25678918401042519352011-09-16T09:37:06.932-04:002011-09-16T09:37:06.932-04:00You're right, it's hard to redesign the Fi...You're right, it's hard to redesign the Fighter within the constraints of 4e without ending up sort of broken. If one were to implement a system like this, I suppose you'd have to throw out both the Essentials build AND the PHB build, and then perhaps pick over their bones for weapon-specific powers (such as the ones you've mentioned). I'd think that stances would be right out, except maybe as higher-level Encounter powers within certain bounds; like maybe the Fighter, just for this encounter, assume a certain style which gives bonuses for certain weapon maneuvers, while trading off penalties for others. Sort of like the Wizard choosing his implement, the Fighter selects a weapon and a style for that weapon, which of course would get more advanced with in-game "training" and natural leveling.Chris Jacksonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08024769114833934395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8233554834039208796.post-54153976913642020732011-09-16T09:09:33.145-04:002011-09-16T09:09:33.145-04:00I like what you're feeling and the basic conce...I like what you're feeling and the basic concept, but how much different would your proposed idea be than the weapon-specific benefits to 'Power Strike' for Essentials Fighters? Or to the weapon-specific Encounter powers of the PHB Fighter (Crushing Blow, Dance of Steel, etc.)? Wouldn't the At-Will Exploits be the form of basic proficiency with a weapon, and then the Encounter exploits be reserved for the more advanced experts?Rosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08107736691449509380noreply@blogger.com
